NYU Law Revue 2008 video
(This is pretty much a documentary.)
Barbri and Kaplan start taking your money as a 1L so that you can lock in an exorbitant "reasonable rate" for their Bar Review Courses. In return for your money they give you bribes such as year specific study aids and free junk like water bottles that probably have BPA and will slowly poison you.
Working the tables for Barbri or Kaplan can best be analogized to being a pusher. The worst part is that the people who drink the bar review kool-aid and the people who don't bother signing up until it's bar review time become pushers too. Every '09 graduate I know has told me that they regret not signing up for a review course as a 1L or 2L and strongly recommend that I spend now to save later. I am, of course, already a player in this ponzi-pyramid-matrix scheme and signed up several years before I'll be taking the bar exam. Immediately after I signed up I got Bar Review fever, texted my friend and told her that she had to sign up immediately or chaos reins. She did not sign up and so far chaos has not reined... yet. Bar Review Fever is more contagious and costly than Swine.
