It's hard to cuddle with a laptop
I've recently discovered DailyLit.com a glorious website for people who love to read books, but hate to borrow books from the library, and can't afford to buy any other books then the ones found in their law school bookstore. DailyLit offers a collection of over 1,000 books. Simply sign up, choose a book, and DailyLit will email you installments of the book on the days and time you specify. DailyLit has tons of classics and contemporary books, as well as a respectable collection of books in French, German, Italian, or Spanish. The books are FREE to read thanks to sponsorships. For example, thanks to Diane Von Furstenberg I'm reading Madame de Staƫl: The First Modern Woan by Francine du Plessix Gray in 67 installments. Every morning at 9am I receive 4 installments of this book via email, which I usually end up reading on my iPhone. Each installment takes less than 5 minutes to read and none of the emails with 4 installments have taken more than 10-15 minutes to devour. If you want to read more than what was emailed to you just click on get the next installment right now to get another email or log into their website and keep reading. You can also subscribe to multiple books. I'm also receiving one Emily Dickinson poem each evening at 8pm from the Poems by Emily Dickson. This site is a great way to read books that you've avoided over the years, because they're too cumbersome or you didn't think you had the time (for me this will be Anna Karenina which was originally published in series form).BUT...
It's hard to cuddle with a laptop
I love books and the experience of holding a book in my hands and reading it. I love the feel of the paper between my fingers when I turn the page, the smell of the book, the creases that gradually appear in the binding. There is nothing that can replace that experience but when you have to stick to a budget you have to be willing to forgo the sensory experiences of reading a book.

Pens, Pads, & Post-Its
LAW STUDENT HOLIDAY WISHLIST
(really it's my wishlist combined with holiday suggestions for the law/grad student in your life)
Ampad Canary Yellow Evidence Pads
Ampad Canary Yellow Evidence Pads
NPR T-Shirt and NPR Window DecalI just discovered this on the company website but so far it looks like this is only available in the UK and Europe. I'm going to see if my law school can order some since they sell the Staedtler TextSurfer Classic Highlighters and I've already gone through a few of these this semester.
Sigg Bottle Pouch so that the condensation on my Sigg Bottle doesn't get my books wet. I love my sigg bottle and I strongly suggest giving it as a gift this holiday season, especially to the law student in your life. It keeps my water ice cold all day long, saves me from spending money on an unhealthy soda or other drink at school, and keeps my healthy since I'm not drinking out of plastic bottles with BPA or other toxins. If you're a student I'd recommend purchasing one from your local Eastern Mountain Sports and asking for their student discount, just remember to bring your school ID.
Snuggie! I love my snuggie. I wear it backwards so it's more like a kimono/robe. Sometimes I put a belt around it. I am not ashamed of this, but I probably should be. Seriously, this is a great money saving gift for the law student that has to pay for their own heat or who is perpetually cold.
Coffee/Tea Shop Gift Card to help fuel your favorite student or you could just take them to their favorite cafe for a break every once in a while.
A KITTEN!!!!
Preferably one that listens to Radiohead...
But not this kitten...

I'm a Barbri Girl and Chaos Reins!
NYU Law Revue 2008 video
(This is pretty much a documentary.)
Barbri and Kaplan start taking your money as a 1L so that you can lock in an exorbitant "reasonable rate" for their Bar Review Courses. In return for your money they give you bribes such as year specific study aids and free junk like water bottles that probably have BPA and will slowly poison you.
Working the tables for Barbri or Kaplan can best be analogized to being a pusher. The worst part is that the people who drink the bar review kool-aid and the people who don't bother signing up until it's bar review time become pushers too. Every '09 graduate I know has told me that they regret not signing up for a review course as a 1L or 2L and strongly recommend that I spend now to save later. I am, of course, already a player in this ponzi-pyramid-matrix scheme and signed up several years before I'll be taking the bar exam. Immediately after I signed up I got Bar Review fever, texted my friend and told her that she had to sign up immediately or chaos reins. She did not sign up and so far chaos has not reined... yet. Bar Review Fever is more contagious and costly than Swine.

My very own at home study carrel!!!!
While in the law library today I decided that I'd love to have my very own study carrel at home. I know-- brilliant! I figured that I could find a version of one on ebay, and hopefully be able to afford it, and that's how I found the corrugated study carrel for $16.98!
I'm so tempted to buy it, bring it into the law library, and set it up on one of the large tables for six because 1) the law library gets very crowded towards the end of the semester and 2) study carrels are premium real estate... maybe I could rent it out by the hour while I'm in class!
I just hope that I'll look cooler than this girl. Maybe I could pair this with my Snuggie and really take the library by storm.

Riches v. Thanksgiving, et al.
More often then you would imagine a person or group brings a lawsuit against an intangible being. In this case a prisoner representing himself (pro se) has brought suit against Thanksgiving and Black Friday among other parties. I've edited this order of dismissal and removed a lot of the legal jargon. This case was dismissed for failure to state a claim for relief that falls within the courts jurisdiction, so there. (cognizable)
Jonathan Lee RICHES, Plaintiff,
v.
THANKSGIVING, et al., Defendants.
Dec. 28, 2007.
Plaintiff, a federal prisoner, filed this complaint against “Thanksgiving, Pilgrims, Mayflower Movers, Pilgrim Pride, Turkey Hill, Black Friday, Corn on the Cob, Cleveland Indians.”
...
Plaintiff states that the Thanksgiving holidays “offend” him. He alleges his Sixth Amendment rights are being violated because he cannot spend the holidays with his friends and family. He further alleges that “defendants are responsible for higher traffic",are “conspiring with the oil companies to drive up gas prices,” and that Thanksgiving is “responsible for his mistreatment.” He also claims that “Defendants are in violation of separation of church and state.” Plaintiff seeks 1 million in damages, and for a restraining order against the celebration of the Thanksgiving holidays. The defendants named by plaintiff appear to be various private food companies, a baseball team, a holiday, and the day after Thanksgiving. To the extent any of these defendants are actual entities that may be sued, they are private organizations that do not act under color of state law, an essential element of a § 1983 action. Purely private conduct, no matter how wrongful, is not covered under § 1983. Accordingly, plaintiff has failed to state a cognizable claim for relief under § 1983.

If you can solve this you should seriously consider taking the LSAT... asap
There are 5 houses in 5 different colors.
In each house lives a man with a different nationality.
The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet.
No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same beverage.
The question is: "Who owns the fish?"
Hints:
The Brit lives in the red house.
The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
The Dane drinks tea.
The green house is on the left of the white house.
The green house's owner drinks coffee.
The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
The man living in the center house drinks milk.
The Norwegian lives in the first house.
The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
The owner who smokes Bluemasters drinks beer.
The German smokes Prince. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.
